Beyond Insanity: Beyond insanity
20/04/10 || Smalley
Beyond Insanity is basically yer standard, faceless metalcore group; sure, the singer doesn’t really follow the wussy guidelines that have been established for this genre, with a much more guttural (and average) belch-growl going on, with some whiny clean vocals thrown in just for variety’s sake.
However, their songwriting is basically the same “intense”, toothless material we’ve come to expect in ‘core, and even their attempt to add more grit to their production than usual backfires, with too-low-in-the-mix drums (despite a good performance), a muddy rhythm guitar, and a whiny lead guitar sound that’s just plain shitty.
It doesn’t help that the guy playing the lead here is really fucken amateur and sloppy either, and there wasn’t a single part on “Beyond” that was good enough to headbang to, much less worth remembering.
Beyond’s songwriting certainly isn’t the worst I’ve heard in a band-sent record, since at least it’s relatively (relatively…) well-organized, but it also isn’t interesting at all. The bottom line? Just don’t bother with this one, GD.
